July 2015 – I have come so far this year. Last August, I was terrified and confused when I felt drawn to red and black in my artwork. After Diane’s death, I found that those colors could express my deepest despair. Now, when I am drawn to them, I pull out the red, black, and orange paper, begin a collage, and then set it aside. I picked this one up again on July 4, 2015. It had the colors of despair, but also yellow light. Yet it had no direction, no focus. I looked at my other recent collages and saw that blue worked with those colors. This beautiful blue spotted paper made me think of water. I happily tore it into a starburst of fireworks. A truly happy, triumphant picture.
